Cards for a Family in Need

A friend of mine from the message board told us that her twin daughters house was burnt to the ground. They shared the large house together with their husbands and one of the daughters had two young sons aged 4 and 18 months. She said that insurance is going to pick up the tab on getting thier possessions back in order, but they really just needed some encouragement. The boys especially need a little something to cheer them up. Here are two cards I made. I set out to make the adult card using Art Nouveau that I just got, but I felt a simple flower to accent this beautiful paper was all I needed. I cut it out 4 times using the Cricut MS Elegant cake cart.

I must say though, I am never using that Spongebob cart again. I got so mad at all the little cuts that I ended up coloring him in with stickles! lol!

Opinion, My Pink Stamper

If you got sucked into the Cricut addiction then you should know who Robyn from My Pink Stamper is. She hosts the My Pink Stamper blog that has been around for a while now. She originally did all kinds of useful videos showing how to use the Cricut Expression, going through all the strange features that are hard to figure out on your own. I pretty much got my first Cricut because of her.

Lately though things have changed with her. This is my opinion only and I'm sure I will catch some heat for it, but its my opinion and I'm not going to sensor it.

I was excited for her when Cricut decided to endorse her. They gave her lots of stuff to give away to all her fans and sent her all their new products for her to show us. I forgot which video it was, but basically she said she could not reveal to us the details of the agreement her and the other ladies (Joy, sorry forgot the others) have with PC. Ok, not that big of a deal. But her videos changed. Basically she had nothing bad to say about PC every again. They could do no wrong. In one video a long long time ago she said she used SCAL. Well PC basically shut down Craft Edge that makes SCAL. This program can no longer be produced to run on their machines.

Lately some of her videos its like she doesn't even want to be there, but keeps doing the new cart projects to fulfil whatever obligation she has to PC.

Not only is she shamelessly promoting PC products, but now she is promoting her own line of stamps. Puny this, Puny that. Urgh. What happened to showing me how to cut out sentiments?

I'm just dissapointed in the shameless promoting. I really loved her maybe 2 years ago, but from the moment PC sponsored her and she came out with her own stuff I just get irritated watching her stuff.

For all of you who say that the dislikes on her channel are people who are jealous of her...please come back to reality. We all use the same machine, carts, and paper brands. Our stuff tends to look similar. If I was a stay at home housewife with nothing else to do, you could not imagine the stuff I would create.

Well there is a story to this thing. I am being tortured in one of my classes. We have to go to a local elementary school and work with 4th through 6th graders to make a club that will have the kids be excited to be in the club and in turn will make them do better academically (if they have bad grades or get in trouble they can not participate in clubs). I don't like kids at all. None whatsoever. But if I have to do it I have to do it. Well this was my idea. Have the kids decorate notebooks with pretty paper and their names. Then we can call them their dream books. In their dream books they can write about their goals in life, what colleges they want to go to, ect. This would just get them thinking about the future and how they will reach their goals. Of course my idea may or may not be met with good vibes. I will have to explain that later. I just calmed down from the whole shock to my system that happened yesterday being at the school.

Yes I adopted a baby skunk. I would have given him to a wildlife rehabilitator to be put back into the wild, but I live in SE Louisiana and right now they are too swamped with oiled animals to take him. Several places told me to bring him in to be put down. Well I don't think so.

I had his scent glands taken out and now he is just like a kitten. He is so sweet and timid. I wish I was home all the time to hold him and play with him. He recovered nicely from the surgery, even though the nasty vet I brought him to gave him back to me in a bloody mess. Here are some pics:

Starting a Business?

Ok so I decided that I really wanted to try a shot at a business. I am starting up Pretty Me Cosmetics. At first I will be only offering mineral eye shadows in exclusive hand crafted colors. I hope to have my first line up in the next two weeks. Are there any colors you want to try? Do you like soft colors or bright vibrant eye shadows?

I want to keep everything affordable so I will probably be offering the eye shadows at 6 dollars a jar and will probably offer samples for 1 dollar. Shipping will also be very cheap.

So if you haven't heard Cricut just released the "Circle", an exclusive club for members only with special carts and rewards. The first round of packages went out on the 30th and the rest of us are still waiting for ours to be picked up. Anyway, people are posting on the message board what is in the packages and whatnot.

Now there is one thread that was started saying that her package was open when she received it. She said a neighbor had handed it to her, that the neighbor told her she was walking over when the FedEx man was leaving and picked up the bright green box to hand to her. She said her box was open and the bracelet and cartridge are missing out of it.

The box was sent FedEx. I have had my own issues with FedEx, but they are very easy to work with once you make a claim. There policy however is to make a claim if a package is damaged and if the package is damaged/compromised while in the hands of the delivery man he pays to replace the value of the contents out of his own pocket. I am 99.99% sure FedEx did not open her package.

Maybe I am being cynical, but I smell a rat. She said she trusts her neighbor and knows she didn't open it, but I think she is either mistaken and should look closer at this neighbor or she is straight up lying to get 2 so she can sell one. If that is true shame on her. Situations like this is why PCs price is high. Also if the FedEx man has to pay for the contents of the package when she actually has them then I would be so mad. I hope it gets resolved, but I think she is lying.

16 and Pregnant - What You Need to Know About Your Teenagers

Has anyone watched the kinda new show "16 and Pregnant?" This is a very rare chance for everyone to see what teens actually go through when pregnant. This has been a controversial issue for a long time, but no one seems to try to fix it. Some say we need more god, others say its what kids watch on tv. What I say is its the parents. Now I'm not trying to lecture you if your a mom or dad reading this. I want to help and it seems that not many people know how to talk to their kids about safe sex or do not want to broach the subject at all. Well since I am 21 and it wasn't that long ago that I went through the terrible teens I would like to help. If I do not address a subject that you would like answered feel free to comment.

Some facts to get started:

750,000 girls between ages 15 and 19 will become pregnant each year in the U.S.
Black teens have the highest pregnancy rate.
The U.S. has the highest teenage pregnancy rate of all industrialized countries.
2/3 of teenage pregnancies happen to teens between the ages of 18 and 19.

You teens either are having sex, are thinking about having sex, or are very close to someone who is having sex.

Our culture today is most of the time centered around a television which showcases sex almost constantly. I don't believe sex is taboo and should be avoided, but I am pointing out that your teen knows about sex even if you do not talk to them. Now imagine that you do not talk to your teen about sex and all they know about sex is from the tv and from friends. See my point?
Teens are greatly influenced by peer pressure. It doesn't matter what the game is, they will always try to one-up one another. When one girl starts to have sex, it usually won't be long until her friends do it.
Teens are young adults with all the urges you have, if not more, with little consideration for what will happen in the future. Like many scientists have pointed out, when a child is developing they develop in stages. When someone hits the teen years their body becomes able to reproduce, but the mind is not developed enough to think through most tough decisions. This is why some states have passed laws restricted driving privledges of teens (only a parent in the car, no cell phone, ect.). The same applies to teens. Your teen will think of instant gratification and not what a child or an STD will do to their future (unless you get them to think of it).

Your teen wants you to talk to them even if they don't act like it.

When I was 16 and dating my first serious boyfriend I wanted nothing more than for my mother to explain the basics to me. How to protect myself, what to expect, ect. Well she wasn't comfortable enough to hold that conversation with me. She came from a fairly conservative background where it just wasn't something you should, could, or ever would talk about.
When you do try to talk to your teen about sex tell them they can talk to you and you won't get mad. Mean it. It is possible to be a parent and a friend at the same time.
Ask them if they have any questions that you could answer, you don't have to get graffic or explain what you and your partner do, I mean bodily changes, what you went through when you were a teen, ect. Although don't make the mistake of thinking teens today are the same as teens from your younger years. Culture and society change with every coming generation. It changes enough to where we can relate to one another without ever fully understanding one another.
If they don't feel comfortable enough to talk to you offer to take them to a doctor so they can explain anything your teen doesn't understand. Also as soon as your daughter starts her menstral cycle she should start seeing a gyno anyway for a yearly exam. Another reason to visit a doctor: although breast cancer is rare in young women, when it does happen it is extremely volatile and deadly. It can't hurt to get examined.

Purity rings, pledges, ect. do not work.

I'm not trying to offend, I'm quoting studied facts. Teens who take a pledge to save themselves for marriage are more likely to have unprotected sex and hense are more likely to become pregnant or be exposed to STDs. The reason is simple, they were not planning on having sex, so they had no protection with them or even bothered to learn how to use them.
Teens who took the plegde tend to grow up with unrealistic expectations in marriage. Yes, I read all about the Duggar's oldest son and young wife who had not kissed until they were married. Without much of my personal dislike of this family's values, I could not help but cringe at this. In order for your teen to have a happy healthy marriage (eventually) they should have some experience in the field. Marriage is something you work at and get good at over time, not something that happens one day and you are a perfect partnership at. They need to experience love somewhat. Please don't guilt your children about sex. This doesn't have a good outcome later.

Even if your child's school does teach Sex Ed, you can't rely on it to teach everything your kid needs to know about sex.

Did you ever see the movie "Mean Girls" with Lindsay Lohan and Racheal McAdams? If so do you remember the sex ed class taught by the gym teacher (who was having sex with several of the girls) about how if you have sex "You will get pregnant and die" and spelled Chlamedia with a K... This is sadly an accurate representation of most American public school sex ed programs (I can not speak for private/religious schools but please inform me if you know). My own school here in SE Louisiana tried to convince us that "abstinence is the only way" and sex doesn't really happen and when it does you catch diseases and die. This is not exactly a good way for your teen to think of sex when they reach the age where they should be enjoying it.
Do some research about the different STDs and the consequenses of them. A little knowledge never hurt anyone. Look at the bottom of this post and I will give you links. Tell your child about the risks of unprotected sex and how important it is to protect themselves when they do have sex.

The hard part, give them condoms.

I know what you are thinking "If I give my teen condoms I am telling them it is ok for them to have sex." Not really. Tell them you would prefer they wait because it can be a life changing experience (in the case of pregnancy or STD) and its not bad to wait. However, if your teen does decide to have sex they won't be at risk. They will be prepared and they will thank you later.

I know I haven't posted in over a month. I have been so busy. I got another job and am now working about 50 hours per week plus school started up again and this being my last semester the classes are intense. Just though I would check in and ask what everyone else has been up to. Oh I also have news...

I got accepted into Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) into the Architecture program!!!

They also gave me a $6,500 scholarship to start out with based on my GPA.

If you don't know much about SCAD it is basically ivy-league for art/design degrees. Here is the website:

Now I just have to figure out what I am going to do for the rest of the $20,000 per year for tuition and also find a way to pay for an apartment and living expenses states away from anyone I know, (and I thought I was going to finish college with on $2k of loans, lol.) I might be shaking a can for change on the corner for the next few months. :-) I have been slaving over the most obnoxious, blinged out, frilly, portfolio you have ever scene to hopefully get an artistic scholarship. I am hoping to finish it tonight and will post pics. Its pretty I promise.

Painting With a Twist Artwork

Have you ever heard of Painting with a Twist or Corks and Canvas? If not here the site. Basically you go in with some ratty clothes, some friends, and a bottle of wine and you come out with a complete painting. The artist who teaches the class shows you how to do a painting and walks you through the whole process. It is really fun. It is also pretty affordable, either $35 or $45 per person. Check to see if there is one near you. It is tons of fun.

Hello and Happy New Year. Mine started out bumpy. I accidentally stabbed myself while cooking on the first (no biggy) and when I finally got some firewood for my fireplace wasps flew out. It ended up only two came down the chimney; I guess the rest of them died from the smoke. I am absolutely terrified of wasps and I am a pyro so of course I was right there when they came flying out. Another non biggy, just scared me.

Anyway back to the post. I was looking for deals on cartridges for my cricut. I have a list of a few that I want and search for them on a semi-regular basis with a budget to buy them if I can get them at a reasonable price. I buy pretty much all my carts on ebay. I have bought maybe 3 in the stores, but that was only when they were having a really good sale. Anyway, I have my default ebay search set up to show the auctions and buy it now priced items that are ending soones with shipping also shown. This way I can see what the cartridges, or whatever item I am looking for, are going for straight out if I was going to enter a bidding war for one. Then I switch my view to show only buy it now with price with shipping low-high. This shows you the lowest price you can buy the cartridge straight out. Sometimes you may be surprised to find a buy-it-now auction that costs less than if you waited for an auction to end and bid for it. I bought the camp-out cart today for $22 with free shipping on buy-it-now. If I had gotten into a bidding war I would have paid up to $30.

Also remember, when buying on ebay always look for feedback ratings on the sellers. Even if a seller has a 99% positive feedback rating look and see what the negative comments said. This is especially important when dealing with a power seller. I once bought a poster from a power-seller who had overall good feedback ratings. He improperly packaged my item and when I asked him to work on a resolution with me he basically cursed me out. He then bought an item I had for sale just so he could leave negative feedback for me (only buyers can leave negative feedback for sellers, sellers are only allowed good feedback for buyers). It was a nightmare. In the end I came out ahead though. The shirt he bought from me cost more and I never shipped it to him. Some people are just assholes. I try to only be a bitch when its called for (although I do slip sometimes).

600lb Virgin

TLC has this show on about a young 20-something man who in his teenage years weighed 650lbs. According to the show, he met a personal trainer and with a better diet and exercise he is down to 220lbs. He is a pretty tall guy so that is probably his ideal weight.

This show though was all about getting him into the dating world. He went to a bar and his friend had previously spread new about who would be there later. Girls were fawning over him. This poor guy who had no social skills to speak of didn't know what to do. He dropped out of high school at 17 because of all the teasing and he couldn't handle it. After dropping out he basically sat in front of the tv and grew bigger.

After loosing the weight different people voluteered services to him, surgery to remove excess skin, improve facial features, and dental work to fix his decayed teeth. Now he looks pretty good I must say. Its hard to look at a before and after picture and believe it is the same person.

What I don't understand is how parents allow their children to get this way. He was 17 when he really got big and didn't do anything except watch tv. Its one thing if someone works all day and comes home and gorges, but I have never scene a morbidly obese person working though (not stereotyping - just an observation). Why did the parents encourage this behavior. He was totally dependent on them and everything he ate they brought home. If they had brought home only lettuse and other healthy meals he would not have gotten into that situation. TLC loves to put on these morbidly obese people on their channel. Why don't they ask the parents and others supplying the shrink wrapped disease why they keep the supply coming? All of these morbidly obese people on these shows have someone litterally bringing home the bacon (and much more) cooking the nastiness for them. Why?

They just said that he is 32 and still a virgin. Ok, well I guess his social skills haven't improved. If I was going on a date with someone and I found out they used to be morbidly obese I would probably not continue the relationship. It's about the same as dating an ex-crack addict. The addiction will always be there.

I Stabbed Myself

I was cooking our traditional New Year's meal of lobster tails (pretty cheap when you only get the tails). I was using these really sharp scissors to cut the tails open and it slipped. Ouch. Actually it doesn't hurt too bad, but I had to stop what I was doing and bandage it so blood wouldn't get in the food. I hope this is not a forecast for the future year. *Pouty Face*

Avoid Memory Miser

I bought 4 carts from them off of their ebay site. They sent shipping info for 2 packages on the 26th, but they still have not showed any progress. One of the packages was priority and was supposed to have arrived already and the second package should be almost here. I have contacted them twice and they do not answer emails. I always look at overall ebay feedback before I buy, but when someone has that many sales they tend to have a good feedback rating even if they slip up a lot. I gave them til Monday to have the carts delivered/work with me before I leave negative feedback and open a dispute with paypal. This sucks. If this does not work out I will probably not even buy them. I'm getting so tired of ebay, but when on a budget what else am I supposed to do?

Have you heard of mini-pigs? Supposedly Paris Hilton (hag) and Rupert Grint bought a couple. They are the cutest little animals. They are very loving, clean, and now due to breeding, very small. They run anywhere from $400 to $1200 here in the U.S. but I bet they would be worth the price. I was planning on getting a dog when I go to Savannah for grad school, but now I am leaning more towards a little piglet. They are the cutest things.

Movie Review #2 Paranormal Activity

I didn't get to see this in theatres because all my movie friends are too chicken, but it came out today and I got it in from Netflix. For the 1st 20 minutes or so I was bored. Not much was going on, but when the shit hit the fan I was completely engrossed.

If you have not heard of this movie at all I will give a brief synopsis. Katie and her boyfriend Micah move into a track house and she starts to sense a personal demon has come back for her. When she was a child she and her sister would see a figure at the end of her bed watching her. When she was 8 her house burned down and no one could figure out what caused it. Everything in the house perished (or so they thought). Now at 23 Katie senses the demon is back. Micah is skeptical to say the least so he sets up a camera to really see what is causing Katie's restless nights. What they see and hear on the video is shocking.

As someone who has experienced "paranormal" activity myself I could completely sympathize with Katie. When "something" was discovered in the attic I was so scared. (I don't want to give it away.)

If you like a good ghost story go for it. It was really scary and after you get through the boring beginning you will be on the edge of your seat.

I'm not the kind of person who tivo's shows and obsesses over talk shows, but I really did love Tyra's show. She brought real women onto the show and helped them with their problems. I used to like Maury for this reason. He helped people with thier problems and didn't make a shirade out of it. I guess his ratings weren't that great so he went Jerry Springer on us. Anyway back to Tyra. One of the last shows I saw she brought on women that had lost a lot of weight and they talked about the problems they are having now such as friends resentment, family issues, ect. Her topics are always interesting. On another show I saw last week she had teenage-young 20s girls that wanted to be famous brought on the show. These young girls were so obsessed with becoming famous they would do anything, one spent rent money on a photoshoot, others agreed to do a sex tape to get their name out. She helped convince these women to get their priorities in order and get popular by a safer means. She just seems like a genuinely nice person that I would love to meet. I hate to see the talk show go. Maybe they will at least keep the reruns coming.

So the Pope was tackled during a Xmas Eve Mass. I find this funny. Maybe it was an angry African that got Aids because the Pope is opposed to birth control and told poor African's to abstain from sex. Yes lets tell people in 3rd world countries that have nothing to eat, no food to speak of, have to worry about lion attack, and that blistering heat to ABSTAIN from the one fun activity their poor asses can afford. What a douche. If you really wanted to help the Africans send them food and give them some condoms for Christ's sake. I mean damn.

Plane Drama

Ok so another terrorist tried to detonate a bomb on a passenger plane. I don't understand these people. After 9/11 how do they expect the other passengers to react when they threaten the entire plane? You can claim to have all the bombs you want, but after 9/11 you had better be able to detonate them fast because the other passengers are going to kick your ass. If a terrorist was on my plane I would send a goodbye text to my mom and Jay and then attack. I only weigh 75 lbs, but I am furious and have taken a couple self defense classes. If its a guy go straight for the balls. If its a woman (although women only account for about 10-20% of violent crimes so that is unlikely) go for the eyes.

I hate to sound...I can't think of the right word, but they really need to come up with a new plan. A hijacker will never be able to keep a plane full of people subdued after 9/11. If I'm gonna die, I'm gonna f you up first.

I hate Walmart...

My aunt got my mother a Saint's shirt for xmas and of course she wasn't paying attention to the sizes. She got my mother a men's larger. We are both extremely petite women. I wear a large in girls shirts or xs in juniors and my mother is not that much larger. She might wear a women's small-medium depending on fit. Needless to say this was a nightshirt. I went to Walmart to return it today and it was a nightmare. Everyone had shit to return so they closed the regular customer service center and opened about 5 lanes to only due returns. Not only did people not pay attention and get in the line with regular items (even though it had neon signs that said RETURNS ONLY). Then after 30 minutes (no I am not exageratting and yes I am a nerd that timed it) I got to the front of the now closed line and the woman said "I can't take returns for that." Aparently they can not exchange NFL licensed gear without a receipt. I told her it was a gift and that was why I didn't have a reciept. She said she couldn't help me. I told her that I was sorry, but she would have to get the manager to approve it. I waited 25 minutes and I was at least getting them to exchange it. She rolled her eyes but got the manager and she approved it as long as I only used the gift certificate to get another shirt.

I really try not to be a bitch with cashiers. I used to be a cashier and a waitress so I am usually very courteous to people in the service industry, but this time I couldn't help it. I'm pretty sure I turned a nice shade of red when she said she wasn't going to return the damn shirt.

What I don't understand is that Walmart is one of the highest profit making corporations in the United States, but they are never staffed properly. HIRE MORE PEOPLE WALMART!!!!!!! YOU CAN AFFORD IT!!!

Cricut Cartridges at a steal!!!

Ok Big lots has cartridges for sale now for $30 in this week's ad. It of course says limited quantities and will probably have not the new carts in stock to be on sale for that price, but this is where we get sneaky. Hobby lobby will match a competitor's price if you bring in the ad. You can print the one online or go into your local store to see what they have and pick up the printed ad there. Then take that ad and bring it to Hobby Lobby and show the cashier the sale price. The Big Lots ad does not say which cartridges so there should not be a fight over which ones they will sell for $30. They will honor that price (or your Hobby Lobby sucks.) Micheals will also match prices and I am not sure about JoAnn's or AC Moore because we don't have those around here. Good luck. I'm going shopping tomorrow. ;-)

Oh and Big Lots is open til 7pm tomorrow night and Hobby Lobby is open til 530 tomorrow night. I am going to stop by here before I leave to have xmas with my family. Woot!!!

My crazy aunt and crazy uncle will not be coming to this year's family affair. My aunt is a complete narcisist. She turns every situation around to be about her.

7 years ago she divorced my uncle because he finally got fed up with her cheating and she couldn't deal with the situation. Aparently he was mean to her. Then after 5 years of completely avoiding him and not speaking any kind word about her husband of 18 years he decided to move on. He saw this really nice woman that the whole family loved, but was completly scared. The relationship however did not last. My aunt found out that her retirement fund was slipping away and she pounced again. They took up just where they left off in that horrible relationship that tainted everyone involved.

Now my other aunt also has an issue with her ex-brother-in-law. He basically stole her 2 kids and wouldn't allow them to call her to tell her they would not be coming home. Then when my good aunt confronted him about it he blew up on her and lets say "said some innapropriate things." Well my good aunt would not come to Thanksgiving because my uncle was there. It was a big fiasco, but finally he left and my good aunt came over and we had fun.

Now back to the bad aunt. She then turned the Thanksgiving fiasco into something about her. The bad aunt bitched at the good aunt that it wasn't fair that she could drive the crazy uncle from our lives, but she couldn't (even though she was the one who brought him)! The whole thing is so ridiculous. I wish a house would fall on the bad aunt and save the rest of us.

Well the bad aunt has dropped out of the family xmas because the good aunt said she would have it at her house. Funny, she never had an issue making it before, even when her and the uncle were divorced and he still came...

I know this is a little hard to follow, but that is really how the situation is...

I just saw the Forever Young, Songbird, Heritage, and Tie the Knot cartridges and some way or another I will find a way to get them. I might have to do them 1 at a time and have to wait til I find another job, but they will be mine eventually.

Apparently at a book signing in Barnes & Noble a 33 year old Minnesota man threw tomatoes at ex-Rep VP candidate Sarah Palin.

I only have 1 gripe about this story...He MISSED!!! He hit 2 police officers acting as guards next to Palin. Same thing when that Iraqi man threw his shoes at Bush. People IF you are going to be arrested for disorderly conduct at least hit your target. SHEESH! On another note, I hope she does come to LA. I won't miss.

David Goldman and the Brazil Custody Battle

I can honestly say I am torn on what they should do with this child. On the one hand his father obviously loves him and wants to know him, but on the other he grew up and loves another family very far away from his father. All this little boy knows is his mother's family and his stepfather. I'm not saying Mr. Goldman should leave his son, but you have to understand what the little boy must be going through right now. This person who is a stranger to him is trying to take him away from the only family he knows and he lost his mother not that long ago... I think Mr. Goldman should go to Brazil and get to know his son and then possibly keep him some of the time until they can get to know each other. After all, this child thinks of Brazil and his Brazillian family as home.

This is a tough situation and I hope the families can be peaceful about it for the little boy's sake.

I got this in today and plugged it in. I must say I am dissapointed. For the most part this is painfully basic. If you could not figure out how to change the blade then I don't think its a dvd you need. I do love ABS and almost all of the projects Megan has done, but I thought this was a dvd that showed projects for beginners to advanced cricuteers. This is a dvd that walks you through all the buttons on the machines (all 3, not just the expression). I already knew what these did and if I had a problem I could look that up on youtube for free. I am dissapointed because I wanted a project dvd, not an idiots guide to the cricut.

I'm not swearing off ABS, but if she does anymore dvds I probably will not buy. I have yet to get the Pink Stamper's dvd. I should have gotten that though. Robyn teaches you the buttons while making a project, which is more to my taste.

If you have never heard of a cricut and don't like youtube this dvd is for you. If you are from my generation that hits buttons to figure out what they do or you watch free youtube videos to understand the basics this dvd is not for you.

Ok I went to Target because the ladies I work for gave me a gift certificate and I had just been oogling over a scrapbook paper organizer there anyway so I got that and one other item and went to the checkout.

I was tired and was not paying much attention but did think it was strange that the lady in front of me had two buggies and was not standing next to her child that was sitting in the little kiddy seat. I didn't care and only really started to notice that something was off when she and the cashier kept looking around. I then realized that a parent had left their 2-3 year old toddler in the buggy to go back and get something. It was after about 5 minutes that the woman came back with a $5 dvd in her hand. The cashier was about to call the manager because the 3 of us were about convinced this woman had abandoned him.

All the while the lil boy was looking around saying "Momma? Momma?"

"I couldn't find it!" Yea we noticed... If I had wanted him, and he was cute, I could be a mommy right now. I could have easily walked up and taken Jr to the car with me simply telling the cashier that "Mommy" wanted me to put him in the car and get ready to go. The cashier wouldn't have known (not that she is to blame for any of that).

Really? Is a $5 dvd really worth risking loosing your child. I know someone who has been trying to adopt for a few years now and I really should have walked off with this lil boy and given him to my adoptee friends. At least I know they would never abandon him like that.

Ok people, a department store, a restaurant, any public venue is not a baby-sitting facility. They are not responsible for your children. If you don't intend to keep your children with you at all times then do not take them with you...

This is not the only thing that could have happened to the lil boy. What if he decided he wanted out of the buggy and fell and cracked his skull open?

Please can we pass a test that is required before anyone is allowed to have kids and if they pass they are still mandated to have parenting classes. Some people just shock and amaze me.

all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body,
he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now.
He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.I can't figure out what country you are the president of.
You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

" We're no longer a Christian nation"

" America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world,"America is mean-spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)

I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House. After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals."
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom. I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected. Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves. And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists. One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of. You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

My response:

1. We are not a Christian nation. Go look up quotes from the founding fathers. They didn't favor any organized religion and had especially nice (cough) things to say about Christianity. If you want to pull the well its "Christian" morals card out, look up Islamic or Jewish or even Pagan morals and they all follow the basic ideas. No we are not a Christian nation. We are a nation of a lot of religions that like to tease one another.

2. America is arrogant. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard someone say "America is the best nation in the world!" who have never even crossed a border much less visited Europe, Asia, or ANYWHERE ELSE! I hope to travel A LOT before I even stoop to the level of making such an arrogant statement.

3. America is mean spirited, otherwise we would not have all these assholes on "reality" tv that have such great ratings. We also love to see someone tortured pretty much, remember Al from Married with Children? Shows that help people or are "nice" in nature do not have good ratings. When "Home Made Simple" or "Antiques Road Show" gets the same amount of ratings or publicity as "John and Kate plus 8" or any of the Housewives shows I will retract this comment.

4. Why does someone who shot a gun automatically think they know whats best for the nation? Someone in one of my classes the other day was bitching about Obama not having military experience...but forgot he went to and Ivy league school on a scholarship (which is not easy to get to say the least). He took advice from his top military advisors and agreed to send 30k troops and to ask other nations for the last 10k, so in case you missed it on the news (many countries are volunteering troops to add up to the other 10k) he did do what his advisor told him, but not exactly word for word.

5. We should not jump to conclusions that just because someone is Muslim that does not mean they are an Islamic extremeist. If this were allowed to happen in government in any level they would have all the jails full of Muslims who did nothing. Yes a Muslim did kill 13 people, but that does not mean he was linked to Alkida (spelling?). To automatically assume so is ignorant and actually distracts from the reason it happened. After 9/11 he was supposedly harassed constantly by cooworkers. If we were not ignorant enough to assume all Muslims were terrorists maybe the Fort Hood tragedy would not have happened.

Urgh this pisses me off.

5. Like all businesses not in the dark ages, the military and its policies have changed rapidly since you were in so any "military experience" you have is non-related to today. He enlisted in 1934 and served 23 years which means he left in 1957 which is over 50 years ago! Tell me Mr. Veteran did you even serve with "negros" or was the military letting them serve you dinner at this point? I am assuming because you have had nothing to say to any prior president that this might be your motive to complain.

Old people, you had your chance and your time is over. Go watch wheel of fortune and try not to wet your diaper....

If you don't like the way we run things you won't have to deal with it for very long.

Dear President Obama,
Do you really want to be the new "war president"? If you go to West Point tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8pm) and announce that you are increasing, rather than withdrawing, the troops in Afghanistan, you are the new war president. Pure and simple. And with that you will do the worst possible thing you could do -- destroy the hopes and dreams so many millions have placed in you. With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics. You will teach them what they've always heard is true -- that all politicians are alike. I simply can't believe you're about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn't so.
It is not your job to do what the generals tell you to do. We are a civilian-run government. WE tell the Joint Chiefs what to do, not the other way around. That's the way General Washington insisted it must be. That's what President Truman told General MacArthur when MacArthur wanted to invade China. "You're fired!," said Truman, and that was that. And you should have fired Gen. McChrystal when he went to the press to preempt you, telling the press what YOU had to do. Let me be blunt: We love our kids in the armed services, but we f*#&in' hate these generals, from Westmoreland in Vietnam to, yes, even Colin Powell for lying to the UN with his made-up drawings of WMD (he has since sought redemption).
So now you feel backed into a corner. 30 years ago this past Thursday (Thanksgiving) the Soviet generals had a cool idea -- "Let's invade Afghanistan!" Well, that turned out to be the final nail in the USSR coffin.
There's a reason they don't call Afghanistan the "Garden State" (though they probably should, seeing how the corrupt President Karzai, whom we back, has his brother in the heroin trade raising poppies). Afghanistan's nickname is the "Graveyard of Empires." If you don't believe it, give the British a call. I'd have you call Genghis Khan but I lost his number. I do have Gorbachev's number though. It's + 41 22 789 1662. I'm sure he could give you an earful about the historic blunder you're about to commit.
With our economic collapse still in full swing and our precious young men and women being sacrificed on the altar of arrogance and greed, the breakdown of this great civilization we call America will head, full throttle, into oblivion if you become the "war president." Empires never think the end is near, until the end is here. Empires think that more evil will force the heathens to toe the line -- and yet it never works. The heathens usually tear them to shreds.
Choose carefully, President Obama. You of all people know that it doesn't have to be this way. You still have a few hours to listen to your heart, and your own clear thinking. You know that nothing good can come from sending more troops halfway around the world to a place neither you nor they understand, to achieve an objective that neither you nor they understand, in a country that does not want us there. You can feel it in your bones.
I know you know that there are LESS than a hundred al-Qaeda left in Afghanistan! A hundred thousand troops trying to crush a hundred guys living in caves? Are you serious? Have you drunk Bush's Kool-Aid? I refuse to believe it.
Your potential decision to expand the war (while saying that you're doing it so you can "end the war") will do more to set your legacy in stone than any of the great things you've said and done in your first year. One more throwing a bone from you to the Republicans and the coalition of the hopeful and the hopeless may be gone -- and this nation will be back in the hands of the haters quicker than you can shout "tea bag!"
Choose carefully, Mr. President. Your corporate backers are going to abandon you as soon as it is clear you are a one-term president and that the nation will be safely back in the hands of the usual idiots who do their bidding. That could be Wednesday morning.
We the people still love you. We the people still have a sliver of hope. But we the people can't take it anymore. We can't take your caving in, over and over, when we elected you by a big, wide margin of millions to get in there and get the job done. What part of "landslide victory" don't you understand?
Don't be deceived into thinking that sending a few more troops into Afghanistan will make a difference, or earn you the respect of the haters. They will not stop until this country is torn asunder and every last dollar is extracted from the poor and soon-to-be poor. You could send a million troops over there and the crazy Right still wouldn't be happy. You would still be the victim of their incessant venom on hate radio and television because no matter what you do, you can't change the one thing about yourself that sends them over the edge.
The haters were not the ones who elected you, and they can't be won over by abandoning the rest of us.
President Obama, it's time to come home. Ask your neighbors in Chicago and the parents of the young men and women doing the fighting and dying if they want more billions and more troops sent to Afghanistan. Do you think they will say, "No, we don't need health care, we don't need jobs, we don't need homes. You go on ahead, Mr. President, and send our wealth and our sons and daughters overseas, 'cause we don't need them, either."

For the second time in one week Fox has been caught airing misleading videos as part of their program. The first came last week when they aired a story about a march on capital hill in protest to the health care reform. They aparently used footage from this past august at another rally. Why would they do this? Because there were only about 10k ppl who marched against health care and the other footage contained a march of 40k (in an unrelated to health care gathering) and that footage looked better.

The second time they have gotten caught, just this week, was for one of Palin's book signings. The gathering had many ppl, but that number wasn't sufficient for Fox so they used footage from the campaign trail to make it look like more ppl showed up.

And why are they still on air? Oh yea...because most people are too stupid to check the facts.

Atheists Should Fake it for "God"

So my cousin and uncle are home for a visit from Maine like they do every year and I went over to my grandmother’s house where they were along with my aunt. I was having a conversation with my cousin Jackie because we share similar views on most ideas. We were talking about the upcoming election and the state of things and my aunt chimed in with another of her ignorant, racist comments by saying that she did not understand why people were voting for Obama because he is a racist and not a Christian. She even went as far to say that America is in its crappy state because we are not living the proper Christian life. Well anyone who knows my family can attest that she is far from the the proper Christian. I used to joke that her bible was next to her vibrator in nightstand. Well I did not want to start a family braul on the first day of my uncle and cousin’s vacation so I let that slide.

We talked more and then knowing that I am an atheist she came to the conclusion that I need to miraculously become a Christian just in case I am wrong, "Because one day, Sole`, you WILL be judged and it is better to live the life now and have nothing happen when you die, rather than not believe and have to explain that to God when it is too late."

I know I have a very strange take on reality in comparrison to most, but this is the analogy I made: So the same if I am having sex and am not enjoying it, just like I "should" fake it for my lover to make him happy, I should fake it for God to please him? I don't think so.

Assuming there is a God, all powerful being, whatever, would he be more mad that people do not believe in him or if they pretend to believe just in case so they can't be sent to the hot place. I would think the latter is true. If the person believes just in case then that means they do not really believe. You are only a true Christian, Muslim, Jew... if you believe in it whole heartedly. Reading the bible, preaching to others, and pretending doesn't make someone "devout." In fact I would argue that someone who doesn't believe in a deity, but lives a good life without the thought of, "If I do this bad thing God is going to get me," lives a much more Christian life than those who pretend. I would say that God would be pleased that the person lived a good life w/o needing to think he is looking over their shoulder.

Now I have a lot of conservative Christian friends and good for you. I'm glad that mindset makes you happy and feel complete. I respect it even if I don't believe it. Now tell me this, imagine some Atheist came up to you and said, "Your God is no more logical than Southpark's flying spagetti monster. You should not believe in something just because it can't be disproven." Would that simple statement make you think that everything you had ever known was false and you would join the fight against the religious right? Probably not.

So why do Christians think that we Atheists can so easily change our way of thinking and become religious. Did it not cross your mind that we whole heartedly believe what we believe, just like you do? Also please answer these questions for me: Where exactly in the bible did it say you get brownie points for converting us heathens and heretics or that it is even your place to tell us that we are wrong? I've never read the book and personally never want to, but I thought one of your main points is that no one but God is perfect enough to judge and doing so is a sin... Where did it say to go to Africa to feed the starving children, but only if they will accept a bible with the grain and allow you to Baptise them?

I really respect Hillary and had her as my top choice for President last year. I was very upset when she lost out in the primaries, but I cannot complain about Barack that much. He is ok. I truely hated Palin though. With all the scandals she was caught up in and the blunt waste of taxpayer money she caused while preaching that taxpayer money should not be wasted was almost laughable to me if she was not serious. Then when her daughter was announced to be pregnant she said it was "Bristol's choice" to keep the baby...So let me get this straight, she runs on a campaign to eliminate abortion but her daughter gets a "choice." I don't think so Palin.

Please Hillary, don't have coffee with this person. Nothing good could come from it. I like you just the way you are. Smart, sassy, and logical. I wouldn't want the redneck retardedness to rub off on you.

P.S. if you didn't know, Palin made women who were victims of rape pay up to $1400 for their rape kits if they ever wanted to be able to prosecute the man who assaulted him. Is this the person you want in office in 2012? Well the world is supposed to end then anyway so....

The best most TENDER FALL APART DEER ROAST EVA!!!!!!!

Ok. My uncle shot a deer over a year ago and gave me a shoulder roast. It has been in the freezer for that long because I had no idea how to cook it. I was skeptical about some of the recipies I saw. Wild game tends to be really tough meat and if it is not cooked perfectly you get wet jerky. I hope this helps. I loved it, might go eat the leftovers here in a min....

You Will Need:

Roast - size depends on how many servings you want
Carrots - baby is best
Onions
Raddishes
Potatoes
Rice
White Wine - cheap tart kind - no specific brand
A lg pot with a cover to seal in moisture
Garlic
Tony Chaceries (not spelled right but you know what I mean)
Other spices to taste

Steps:

Preheat oven to 200 Deg F
Cut up onion into slices, sm raddishes in half, and potatoes in cubes
Stab roast with lg knife and shove sm pieces of garlic in holes. Do this on both sides
Put roast in pot, veggies on top, then pour white wine over everything. Pour it til it has at least an inch of liquid all around the roast. Adding more will make more gravy so don't be shy.
Sprinkle spices on top.
Place in the oven for at least 4 hours b4 checking it. If you start to get really hungry after that amount of time you can crank it up to 450 to finish it quicker, but if you let it cook at 200 for 8 or so hours it will be as soft as butter.
Keep cooking until it twirls off with a fork and no bloody core.
Cook rice (I'm not explaining that lol)

Before abortion was made legal and estimated 1.2 million abortions were performed illegally by back-alley butchers and the women commonly died from them. Even if it were to be outlawed it would not stop them from happening, but would start a large die-off of child-bearing age young women. IN that case the fetus would not live either so by denying abortions only leads to dead women.

It costs at minumum $10k to have a child in a hospital. Most young women do not have that saved up ready to use. Having the child and giving it up for adoption is not always an option.

Perhaps if the government would offer free or very cheap birth control to young men and women less conceptions would happen and it would be less of a fight.

My New Favorite Movie

Ok, so a friend talked up this movie and I was a little suspicious. I love horror, psycological thillers, ect but I usually hate low budget films. Sometimes I even end up turning them off because I get bored with them. I took a chance and put it in.

Hard Candy

I won't give the movie away, but I will say it was awesome. If you have a weak stomache or get disturbed easily this movie is not for you. Basically this young girl (younger Ellen Page from Juno) is a child genius and takes action after a girl in her community goes missing and tracks down child molesters. She goes home with a man she has been chatting with in internet chat rooms and um...teaches him a lesson. I laughed so hard in some parts and I cringed in others (kinda hard to get me to cringe). It really was an amazing movie. I hope you give it a chance and love it too.

P.S. I wish our legal system would do the equivalent to child molesters. These ppl can not be trusted in normal society and should be dealt with. Considering how young I look I might take up a new hobby...

A Cheap and Pretty Holiday Present

Ok, so I was brousing the isles of Hobby Lobby knowing I wanted to make something for the ladies I work with and that it should be something they could look at and enjoy in their cubicle. Everyone has posted up drawings from children, pictures, work related things, so on, but nothing to really reflect them. Well the 50% off paper mache items caught my eye and it hit me...their names. I could get a letter each one of them and customize it to reflect their personality...Bingo!

Here we go.

You will need:

Paper Mache Letter (2.50 full price)
Acrylic Paint ($1 each)
Acrylic Paint Sealer - either glossy or matte finish ($5)
Paint brushes ($3)
Something to cover the floor, either garbage bag or an old sheet. ($0)
Cup of water to get excess paint off. ($0)

For the flowers:

Cricut
Pretty non-patterned paper
Brads

Steps:

Paint the letters. You will have to do this at least 2 times. Some colors maybe more.
Take an accent color and brush the hard edges. On Roxann's I used a bright pink for the base and gold for the edges.
Use your cricut to cut out their names (if you don't have a cricut go get some thick chipboard letters at the craft store and paint them with the accent color). Glue them on.
Follow the tutorial here: http://svgcuts.com/blog/?cat=3 to make the flowers with your cricut. If you do not have a cricut get some silk flowers or prima flowers, they are very good as well.
Secure the flower with a pretty brad. Glue the flower on.
Add accents based on the person's personality.
After everything is dry use the acrylic sealer to completely cover your project at least twice. This will keep your project from fading over time. Do this outside. The smell from the sealers are very strong.

Here are two of the finished ones. I will post more when I get done with the others.

The Duggars...Need I Say More?

The Duggars aired a special on TLC this week called "20 Duggars, 20 Years" or something like that. No I did not watch it. I am so disturbed by this family that I am not sure I can describe it, but let me try.

In my mind all I think about is poor Duggar Mother Hen's uterus screaming for a break. I'm picturing a deflated balloon that has been stretched for so long the skin of it is translucent. One of these days it might just revolt and fall out of her.

Another thing. When you have given birth to almost 20 children are you still considered a woman or a slippin-slide? (So nasty)

Ok, enough of my being mean. Let me tell you about an ex-friend of mine who is 4th in a total of 12 children. He has psychological issues that I'm not even sure a therapist and drugs could help. Everything to him is a competition, even best friend's girlfriends were a conquest. When you are an older child with that many younger siblings you never truly get to just be a kid. By the time you understand "don't drop the new baby" you are a parent. He and his older siblings were expected to help his mother parent each and every one of the younger kids. This is so selfish on the parent's part. If you want lots of kids, by all means go for it, but don't have so many that YOU can not parent them. Your older kids want to play ball, not change diapers. Also when you have that many kids you can not give them the individual attention they deserve, this is where his psychological problems came from. It is one thing to fight over a bathroom, but when you have to fight for your parent's love and attention it never turns out well.

Even psychologists who have studied family units say in a two parent household where both parents are actively participating in the kids lives you should not have more than 3 kids. If you exceed this number the children do not get the proper amount of individual attention they need to develop into happy fully functioning human beings.

12 in my ex-friend's family was bad, but with the 19th duggar in inqubation this is just ridiculous. This should be illegal to have that many kids. But in my opinion you should have to take an IQ test to have any in the first place.

I'm gonna go be nauseous now.

Mom wants compensation for being kicked off plane cuz of 2 year olds tantrum...

Now, where do we start...How about my experience with toddlers on planes. On a trip from Savannah to Dallas (at least a 2.5 hour flight) a couple with a 4ish year old and a 2ish year old sat in front of me. I was already seated when they boarded and each parent had a kid in their arm. The father had the 4ish year old that was talking, no biggy. The mother however, had a screaming 2ish year old monster in her grasp. I don't know if the child could speak yet, it just screamed the whole time we were sitting waiting for the plane to leave. I was on the phone at the time telling my mother that my flight was about to leave and she couldn't even hear me over the little demon. When she asked what was going on, (she thought maybe we were being hijacked) I said in not so quiet words that a couple with a little brat was sitting in front of me. The mother then had the nerve to turn around and give me a look like I was the one screaming in her ear. When she sneered at me I said, "Yes your little brat." She looked as though I had slapped her and turned back around.

During the entire 2.5 hour flight this little bastard screamed at the top of his lungs. Even the stewartesses tried to get him to calm down. What makes me mad about the whole ordeal is that the parents just sat there. They didnt calmly talk to the child about behaving, they didn't yell at the kid to shut up, they didn't bring him to the back to swat his ass. They did NOTHING! The other passengers and I just had to sit there and deal. This was ridiculous. I was very dissapointed with the airline. This whole situation could have been avoided if they had nipped it in the butt from the beginning when the child started screaming even before the cockpit door closed. They could have refunded the flight and told the family to travel elseware. The crew allowed them to stay not to incovience them while the brat caused over 2 hours of misery to everyone else on the flight. 4 pissed customers or 200? I'm not a business major, but...

The next time this happens I am blaring rap music until either the kid stops screaming or they kick one of us off the flight. I will not be subjected to this torture again.

P.S.
Now, I am not a total bitch. I understand with small babies that the pressure difference hurts their ears and thats why they cry. I am just saying that maybe a little downer will keep the child from being in pain and the rest of the passengers from having thier expensive flight become a torture chamber.

How to Carve an Amazingly Intricate Pumpkin

Ok, yes it is Nov. 1st so Halloween is over, but for next year you will be set.

Materials Needed:

Pattern (best ones are from zombiepumpkins.com or carvingpumpkins.com or www.spookmaster.com or even www.pumpkinmasters.com
Pumpkin (either funkin foam pumpkin or real)
Small Serraded Blade
Poker or toothpick
Light (either candle or I recommend the strobe light)
Scotch tape
Petroleum Jelly (for real pumpkins)
A small pumpkin carving kit at any retail store should have everything necessary to carve it.)

How to do it:

If you have a real pumpkin cut the top at an angle and core it out using a big spoon or a scoop from one of the kits.
Print out the pattern you want to carve and tape it to the pumpkin. You may have to cut the pattern to allow it to lay flat on the rounded surface.
Use the poker to poke the lines along the pattern. Make sure intricate areas are poked very precisely so when you remove the pattern you can see what to cut.
After poking the pattern remove the paper, but keep it next to you for reference.
Cut along the dotted line.
Your done!

Tips and Tricks:

If you carve a real pumpkin, every exposed surface on the inside will begin to decay the moment you cut it or core it out so use petroleum jelly to cover the entire surface. This will slow the decaying process by keeping your pumpkin moist.
Candles are not the best way to light your pumpkin, they provide very little light and are harmful to the pumpkin, either real or foam. The heat causes real pumpkins to decay faster and can cause your foam pumpkin to catch fire (I learned this the hard way).
If you carve a real pumpkin, try to find room in your refrigerator to store it when it is not showcased. The cooler temperature will extend its life and keep it out of harms way (pets, children, clumsy spouses, ect.)
Don't waste! Either plant your seeds or bake a pumpkin pie. If you don't like pie, I'm sure your family or co-workers will enjoy one. I bring my pumpkin innerds to my grandmother so she can bake pies.

Interracial Couple Denied Marriage in Hammond, LA - My Town

I promised to critic news stories and here it is. I live a few minutes away from Hammond, LA but work and go to college here; consequently this is where I spend most of my time. During the 2008 campaign I heard some of the nastiest things come out of the mouths of people I respected. When Hilary looked like she would win I heard the most sexist things said about her abilities to run the country. "Women are too emotional. If we got attacked she would sit there and cry." or former Pres Bush's comment, which I also heard a lot, regarding her "fat" ass.

Then Barack stepped into the light and the shit really hit the fan. A woman was almost acceptable, but a "nigger" hell no. One of my dearest friends told me that her father would kill her if she voted for a "nigger". If you think racism is dead, take a lil trip to Hammond, LA and I will show you around. Of course Barack did win. I was one of a total of 3 white people who wore a Barack the Vote tshirt on election day (lots of black ppl wore them). Congrats Barack, make us proud.

Now the interracial couple. Keith Bardwell, a justice of the peace working for the state of Louisiana, denied to sign a marriage license for Beth Humphrey and Terrance McKay. He has worked in this elected position for over 30 years and has denied interracial couples marriage licenses before. Yes racism is still strong here in the south. The couple is now suing LA for damages.

This is completely out of line. If he worked for a church honestly I would not care. Churches here are divided by race so that would not surprise me. I also believe churches have a right to marry who they want to, gay couples-varying ages couples-interracial couples, because they are a private organization. This man however works for the state. If it is not against state regulations he is bound to do his duty that he was elected to do. If he has moral issues with it then he should not have run for the position. When he was elected he took an oath to complete the tasks given to him by the majority vote, he failed. I hope the good-old-boy politics do not sweep this under the rug like what usually happens when an elected official is caught red handed, (David Vitter for example). I truely hope he is fired. OH and his excuse "I'm concerned for the children." Could he come up with a better lie please. Interracial children are beautiful. Honestly stunning. They also tend to look like lighter skinned black people, like are president. He was accepted (ok maybe not here by white ppl, but they could move somewhere else eventually).

Now that the world has heard, the license rejection heard around the world, LA is scorned again for being the racist shithole of the world. I am so ashamed to be from here. I was plotting my escape before, but now this is only encouraging me to leave faster. I am a black sheep myself, try being a liberal here.

Create Your Own Starbucks Coffee Mug!

I don't know about you, but I have become addicted to Starbucks lately. I can not even drink regular coffee anymore because it simply tastes horrible. Try it for yourself if you do not believe me. They now have these cute coffee mugs that unscrew at the bottom and you can either write your info on it or replace it with your own. I saw someone who put her lil girls pic in hers. I used the insert as a guide to cut out this pretty paper and then added my name, a once upon a time saying to go with the fairies, and a corner flourish. These were all cut out using the Storybook cartridge and the paper is from a large packet from hobby lobby. Let me know how yours turns out. Oh and I embossed the letters and corner using the Cuttlebug with the Textile folder.

Something to think about while considering Universal Health Care

I just watched Sicko for the 3rd time. I am so saddened and sickened by the fact that so many of our Congressmen, Senators, and fellow Americans are against Universal Healthcare

My mother just recently had a stroke at work but refused to let her boss take her to the doctor. An hour later she drove herself home. Two hours later she finally told my why she really came home and cried because she was scared of what had happened, but more afraid of the medical bill she would receive if I took her to the Emergency Room. I finally convinced her to go, but she wouldn't let me take her to the local hospital because they have a policy that if you do not pay off all balances within 30 days they send you to a collection agency. I took her to a hospital 45 minutes away not knowing if she would have a stroke and die on the way.

It is now a month later. We got the bill in and we owe thousands of dollars.

Oh and we have insurance. Thanks for picking up that 20%. It really helped.

Once Aupon a Time Card For Anniversary

My mother's boss whom I really like just had a 40th anniversary so I made a fantasy card. On the top it says "Once aupon a time and on the bottom it says "Ann met Alan." In the inside it says "and they lived happily ever after." I forgot where I got the bird svg from, buy I got the Once...saying and the fancy ironwork from SVGcuts.com. They also have a file with a sparrow which looks better than the one I have here.
